Worry

Today's sermon was about worrying, ha! I have a long way to go when it comes to not worrying! My dad has told me the same quote of Mark Twain's for years,

"I am an old man with many worries, much of which never happen!"
So true, so why do I worry??!! Did you know that 40% of what we worry about never even happens?!! 20% of our worries are typically about things that have already happened! What a waste of time worrying is! One of my favorite children's books is Wimberely Worried by Kevin Henkes. Wimberly worries about everything from falling down the drain of the bathtub to what her Halloween costume should be. As a parent, I don't want Slugger or Curls to let worry hold them back from doing anything. There I go worrying again!!

I do think I'm getting better with worry as I get older. Our minister said today, "peace is not the absence of conflict, rather the abundance of love." My goal lately has been to be content in every moment. Being joyful in every moment is too hard, but being content seems more attainable. When I stop my brain from branching off down the road of what ifs, I can focus on right now. I'll close for now and challenge you and myself to try to worry less and strive for the kind of peace God intends for us. Now...on to my next worry...what should I write about tomorrow??!! :)

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And
the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and
your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

Amy,
This really hit home with me. My brother and I were just discussing how worry and fear can take such a stronghold on our lives. I love the idea of being content. I am going to try that! Thanks for such an insightful post.
