Our dear friend, David, has a great philosophy... everybody is whacked in some form or fashion. The sooner we all admit we are a bit whacked the sooner we can accept each other. It really is true, we are all a bit weird in some way. This simple philosophy could really break down barriers in our society. Just think...accepting something or someone because they are a bit whacky instead of seeking out people exactly like you!
Take me for instance, where do I begin with my whackiness. Let's see I've already told you about my worrisome side. I am a clean freak which goes hand in hand with my germ phobia. All the nurses know my kids at our pediatrician's office. They don't even ask for my insurance card anymore, they know I've met our deductible! But 9 times out of 10 they do have an ear infection!! :) I admit it, I'm whacked!
Most of you know my dear hubby, Cary's obsessiveness with order in his life including his closet! Everything is color coordinated, sorted by shirt length, etc. His ultimate obsessiveness is his socks, they are numbered! Yes, you heard right, numbered! Every sock has a partner. Supposedly, he picked up this technique while on tour due to the wear and tear of socks on his feet, etc. I can't argue with a professional tennis player! If that helps you win matches, number those socks!! Love you, hun! Cary keeps us balanced, literally the checkbook is always balanced! I've offerred more than once to give him the few pennies he is searching for to make the checkbook balance. He always grimaces and continues punching numbers into the calculator then hours later I hear, "AAAAHHHHHAAAA, I FOUND IT!!" Thank God for small miracles! Yes, we are all whacked.
Slugger has several whacky tendencies - like his clothes! Right now it is his Astros uniform, red Berkman shirt (you'll see it in almost every photo he is in), white baseball pants, black baseball socks pulled up to his knees ("just like Hunter Pence"), black baseball belt and Astros hat. If Slugger had his way, he'd eat, sleep, play, and bathe in this outfit! Our compromise on this daily battle is that he can wear some form of Astros uniform whenever we are home, when we leave the house he must change clothes. As a parent, I have learned the greatest lesson, PICK YOUR BATTLES and let it go! Before the Astros uniform there was the red warm up suit (just like Daddy's) Thanks, Kathy!! :) Before that he was Murray the Wiggle, everyday...black pants, red shirt, black shoes, black socks and guitar in tow. I love that whacky kid and I'm elated that at 4 he loves something so much he takes a stand, even if it means I have to wash that dern outfit everyday! Yes, even at 4 your whackiness has emerged!
Think about your whacky-nature and embrace it! It is what makes you, you! Life would be so boring if we were all the same! It is really freeing once you realize David is so right, "We are all WHACKED!"
